Social Media Comments Coming to a Disqus-enabled Blog Near You!

5 March 2009 134 Comments

Daniel Ha, co-founder and CEO of Disqus, and Pete Cashmore, founder of social media guide Mashable, announced today a partnership between Disqus, Mashable, and comment aggregation service uberVU to enable Social Media Comments on the popular Disqus commenting system. Social Media Comments by Mashable, Disqus, & uberVU Disqus will use uberVU’s technology to scrape the Internet and pull in comments relating to posts.

According to Mashable, the services that will be accessed include Blogger, Digg, Flickr, FriendFeed, Moveable Type, Picasa, Twitter, TypePad, Vimeo, WordPress, and YouTube, with more added over time.  If a post is discussed on any of the above services, those discussions will show up in the Disqus comments of said post.

Disqus Retweet Option Additionally, users can choose to send their comments to Twitter by simply checking a box when commenting on a Disqus-enabled blog post.

The new Disqus service can be previewed exclusively at Mashable for the next two weeks, and the general release will follow soon after.

I can’t wait to see this new functionality in action.  It will certainly help consolidate, and possibly further stimulate, the conversation across the web that blog posts sometimes initiate.

  • With the Twitter tie in, I believe that will help draw more comments and/or attention to a post when it is commented on. Anxious to see this in action shortly.

  • Hi, I really like your site, nice posts! I would like to give you a free flash banner for you to advertise in other blogs/sites if you need one of course. Anyways great blog! Thanks

  • This is gonna be huge!

  • Yes, I think it will. I'm really excited about the ability to aggregate all the online discussion about each post!

  • When I saw this earlier today I knew this would revolutionize the way I view comments and I immediately downloaded and installed disqus to my wordpress based blog. First impression is that it looks slick to the eye, and furthermore I love being able to aggregate my comments in one place, although it did take me a few minutes to understand what was going on on my disqus home page. The web; new media; call it what you like is so much more about interacting than the old one way media and this helps us to interact.

  • Mark,

I agree, Disqus makes it so much easier to keep track of most of my commenting across the web! And these new features are just going to make the experience even better.

  • Disqus enabled commenting allows better commenting on sites and also the commenter can track on his comment compared to other comment plugin platform.

For those of us not on Twitter, I wonder if there's a way to learn without too much effort these new FADs?

    Steve

  • What do you mean, Steve? To learn how to use the different new technologies (i.e., Twitter and other social media tools), or how to implement?

  • Steve_Calvert

Kind of both, Brian. You know me, I'm old fashion and sometimes starting something that my daughters use and are comfortable with makes my wonder if I'm missing out on something useful or forget about it since it is a FAD.

Those of you who do use Disqus, I find my replys via e-mail so I know when to go back to the Blog to read more.

I just want to learn but be efficient at it.

    Steve

  • i agree too
    it will be great

  • Disqus is really a great tool i am using it already on my blog

  • Disqus, Mashable, and uberVU.

Now that is a powerful team.

  • I've been using Disqus for quite awhile and absolutely love it. My blog comments have become much easier to manage and I've found the comment section to be much more active.

  • Currently there are some “comment plugins” which can let a page have function of comment. The best one I know is Disqus With greater control and commenter profiles. I love it.
