Chris,
Do you mean using Sharepoint as a PDM tool for SolidWorks? If so, I would highly recommend against that, as Sharepoint knows nothing of SolidWorks file relationships.
Talk to Rich Hall, his company was trying to force them to use Sharepoint instead of a SolidWorks/CAD-centric PDM solution.
That said, Sharepoint should work well to share data with customers/vendors or to manage PDF’s or whatnot after you "toss your design over the wall".
Interesting. I look forward to hearing what you think about Autodesk Inventor. There are still a few features from Inventor that I really miss, and that I wish SolidWorks had…

Jason,If I’m not mistaken, I think "Run as administrator" was an option in XP (and possibly NT)…
Sonicson,If you present at SolidWorks World, you get a free pass.Get more involved in your local user group and start doing some presenting. Maybe even present at a Technical Summit, if there is one convenient for you.When you feel more comfortable, move up to presenting at SolidWorks World.And don’t give up trying to get approval from the boss. Do you get any training funding at all? If you’ve taken all the VAR training, SWW is the next level.I finally got to attend my first SWW (after asking my supervisor for a couple of years) after I _finally_ got our chief engineer to attend one of our local user group meeetings. A SolidWorks employee, Gopal Shenoy, was in presenting a Welment presentation that he had given at the previous SWW. He must have been impressed (or maybe it was just the nice leather laptop bag doorprize he won), as the next day, he talked to my supervisor and I was asked if I wanted to go. They sent 2 of us, and it was a lock for me after that!Good luck!Brian
Nice… I haven’t gotten SolidWorks installed on my Win7 box yet.I wonder if this odd behavior is related to another SolidWorks shortcut issue that has puzzled me.The icon that gets put into the Quick Launch toolbar in XP and Vista always acts differently than the Desktop or Start Menu shortcut…for instance, if you installed from an image and that image was updated with a Service Pack, your install would update automatically if launched from the Desktop or Start Menu. If you launched from the Quick Launch toolbar, it would just run SolidWorks. I never could figure out why that was…
“The first bug on Windows-type functionality implemented in SW10 is that when you click on a feature in the FeatureManager that is already selected, SolidWorks automatically kicks you into rename mode.”
This one really bugs the crap out of me… I’ve went back to just using the RMB all the time to avoid this!
@Jamie Hogan
>3. make a text feature configurable (i.e. config
>A text boss “AAA”, config B text boss “BBB”
SolidWorks 2010 has this functionality.
I’ve had to do this recently on a couple of drawings…
Congrats on the new addtion, Jason! I didn’t even know y’all were expecting!
All of the bloggers that attended were (as far as I know) Beta testers, and beholden to the NDA that goes along with it…
Matt is right, the Beta is open, so anyone who is curious should have little trouble seeing things first-hand themselves.
Wow…it’s beautiful! But, WOW…
Thanks to Websense, I just see a big white nothingness where the YouTube goodness should be! I will have to try to remember to check them out at home…
Since changing jobs, I can’t log into the forums with the profile that I had been using. I am reluctant to create another one as I would lose connection with what little bit of history I have there.
I use Toolbox as a parts generator and put the parts in a static library. That seems to be the best use of it in my opinion.
@TMS
Hello TMS,
The latest version of the spec I am working to is ASME Y14.5M-1994(R2004), and doesn’t have that section, but the wording is there in 4.3.2.
I actually misspoke in my original comment. What I need to accomplish is to create an “primary external datum width”, as shown in Figure 4-13 (ASME Y14.5M-1994(R2004)) to convey the symmetrical design intent.
After doing a little research from your comment, I have figured out how to create this datum by using “Create Width Feature” in the DimXpertManager Auto Dimension Scheme.
You have to select one of the faces first before you can choose to create the width feature, and I had not understood the verbiage correctly.
Thanks for pointing this out, it will help me much!
Upon refreshing, the sidebar seems to have moved up some, but there is still some blank space. And the 3 adds right below the header seem to be floating out where they shouldn’t be. I just sent you a screenshot.
Loving the new site design, Thesis is a beautiful theme!
Unfortunately, IE seems to break it; that’s all I can run at work. :( But at least I can see the site now; after they upgraded me to IE8 a few weeks ago, your site would just crash whenever I came to it, with or without compatibility mode.
I am working on a redesign for my site, but I think it’s going to take me longer than a year…LOL! It’s going to be a while before I can work on it much with the new baby here.
BTW, your first Flickr link has a "member no longer active message"…
Hmmm…I never have really paid attention to the command in the menus; I have always just used the Alt-[L or R] Arrows or Alt-MMB to rotate the view parallel to the screen.
That’s the main complaint about Twitter I always get here @ work from folks. It is a little difficult to find things in the noise, but using some of the tools out there like you mentioned makes it a little easier. I for one like some of the noise, and it lends a personal touch.
